Canadian seasons are tough on boots — mud, rain, and frost all take their toll. A little care after each game goes a long way to extending the life of your boots.
After Every Game
Remove excess mud with a soft brush or damp cloth while the mud is still wet. Dried mud is harder to remove and can crack leather. Never put muddy boots in a kit bag and leave them overnight.
Cleaning
Use lukewarm water and a mild soap. Avoid soaking leather boots in water, clean the upper with a damp cloth instead. Rinse studs and the outsole thoroughly to prevent mud build-up around the stud sockets.
Drying
Stuff boots with newspaper or a boot tree to hold their shape and absorb moisture. Dry at room temperature. Never place boots near a direct heat source like a radiator or in direct sunlight, as this can dry out and crack leather uppers.
Leather Care
If your boots have a leather upper - treat with a quality boot polish or conditioner every few weeks during the season to keep the leather supple and water-resistant. This is especially important for the Icon leather range in wet Canadian conditions.
Studs
Check stud tightness before every game - loose studs are a safety hazard. Replace worn or damaged studs promptly. We stock replacement aluminium and plastic studs for all boots in our range.
Storage
Store boots in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid storing in a sealed bag, always allow air to circulate. A boot bag with ventilation is ideal for keeping boots fresh between sessions.
